The Suburban Baths were
built at the end of the first century B.C. against the city walls north
of the Marina Gate.
After the earthquake of 62 A.D. the baths were restored
along with all their decorations. There is a single facility which is
not divided into men's and women's sector. The entrance is through a
long corridor which leads first to the dressing-room (apodyterium),
then to the lukewarm room (tepidarium)
with its vault ceiling, and finally to the hot room (calidarium) with pool. In the dressing-room there are
paintings of the first phase with a repertory of erotic scenes. Thecomplex was unearthed in 1958 and has recently been excavated
and restored.
