House
of the Moralist
It is so-called by the three mottos painted in a
triclinium staircase. It is composes of two communicating houses of the
families of T. Arrius Polites
and M. Epidius Hymenæus (known
as the Moralist). From the
common atrium is possible to go up at the superior floor, with an open
loggia on a big garden, under which there is the triclinium with three
beds and the table; on the black background of the walls are painted in
white three couplets with the rules of sobriety and temperance that had
to be observed at lunch.
