The
lararium is covered by fine decorations; beautiful is the frieze
under the vault of the small environment, composed by hundreds of small
fragments: on a dark blue background there are some representations of
the last book of the Iliad, in
plaster bas-relief. Because of many fragments of chalky limestone in
the peristyle, it’s supposed that the house was being reconstructed
when the catastrophe struck the city.
