The Imperial Villa was
built at the end of the first century B.C. in the area beneath the
terrace of the Temple
of Venus and against the city walls near the Marina
Gate. In front of the villa there was a ninety-meter
long portico and the house had the largest (6
x 7.5 x 8 m.) and most sumptuous reception room in Pompeii.
It was abandoned after the earthquake of 62 A.D..
